Situated in the Three Valleys, the largest linked ski area in the world, Courchevel is a firm favourite with the rich and famous. With exclusive restaurants and luxury accommodation it has an international reputation for excellence. However holidaying here needn’t be expensive. Courchevel is made up of five villages each with their own distinct character. With its luxurious image, Courchevel 1850 attracts the moneyed crowd while more family friendly and affordable alternatives can be found in Courchevel Moriond (1650) and Courchevel Village (1550) – the latter can be reached from 1850 by a thrilling toboggan ride. Courchevel Le Praz is ideal for ski jumpers with its towering Olympic jumps and Saint Bon, the lowest village at 1,100m, offers a traditional mountain holiday.

Skiing In Courchevel

Beginners and families: With 19 green and 35 blue runs the Courchevel area offers plenty of variety for beginners and younger skiers. There are also four ZEN zones – gentle slopes in enclosed areas designed specifically for novices. The ski area around Courchevel Moriond is made up predominantly of blue and green runs making it a popular base for families. There are also plenty of ski schools to choose from including ESF based in Courchevel 1850, 1650 and 1550. Intermediate: There are 111 red runs to enjoy across the Three Valleys (34 in Courchevel) all easily accessible via numerous lifts, runs over the ridges and linking passes. If you want to try your hand at cross country skiing, Courchevel has 66km of marked and maintained trails to explore. Advanced: If you like your descents steep and challenging, you’ll find 30 black runs across the Three Valleys. In the Courchevel Valley head for the Saluire/Creux area with its varied network of black and red runs at altitudes between 2,000 and 2,700 metres. On days when visibility isn’t too good the black runs near Le Praz are a good option. Snowboarding: With a huge choice of runs for beginners and intermediates, Courchevel is also great for a bit of exploring with trees near Le Praz and lots of back country to with natural half-pipes, hits and drops. At Courchevel Railpark you’ll find boxes, rails, a quarter pipe, different grade kickers and more.

With access to the slopes wherever you are staying in the resort is undoubtedly a major plus point. There are plenty of places to enjoy some aprés ski including traditional alpine venues, champagne and piano bars. And there’s lots more fun to be had when the skis are off with activities such as helicopter rides, spas, bowling, ice skating, sledging, snowmobiling, a cookery school run by a Michelin-starred chef and much more. You can also try your hand at night skiing with a torch-lit descent.
