Skiing Val d’Isere should be on every snowsports fan’s bucket list. The marrying of the two neighbouring resorts, Val d’Isere and Tignes to form the Espace Killy area provides snow junkies with 300km of piste and an abundance of awesome off-piste. Both Val D’Isere and Tignes have their own glaciers, which means that even in the poorest snow conditions you will be able to find some powder to track. Although the Espace Killy ski area has never been best suited for beginners, the expansion and addition of a new beginners area in Val D’Isere is set to change all that, and the slopes for the intermediate and advanced skiers seem to never end.

If it’s speed you are after then be sure to check out the infamous Olympic black run, Le Face (pronounced ‘fass’); alternatively you can sit in the sunshine at the foot of it and watch people take it on, this cliff face is every bit as scary and steep as it sounds. Olympic downhill skier Patric Orlieb nailed Le Face in 2 minutes flat, do you reckon you can beat that?

When skiing in Val d’Isere no two moments are the same. The standard of accommodation in the resort is generally good, there is genuinely something for every taste here. However, the majority of the accommodation is self-catering and we get some great deals on these residences. Most people choose to stay in a studio complex. It is a great way to get the best of both worlds, because you get hotel standard accommodation at self-catering prices. If you stay somewhere like the Maeva Residences, there is the added benefit of having access to a guest pool, a sauna, Jacuzzi, fitness centre and a hammam.

The accommodations in La Daille (a 7 minute bus ride from the town centre) offer doorstep skiing, but if you prefer to be in the centre of town and amid all the hubbub then you will be faced with a short bus ride, or a 10-15 minute walk in your ski boots each morning to get to the slopes.
